Socotra Hospital Expansion by BK Gulf Modular Healthcare Solutions
- Project Entered by: BK Gulf
- Client/Owner: Ministry of Presidential Affairs UAE
- Design: Emergency Rooms & Operating Theatres: THAPI; Intensive Care Units: Synergy UK
- Contractor: BK Gulf
The extension project of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan hospital in Socotra Island, Yemen is a prime example of successful offsite fabrication. The hospital required the urgent construction of two operating theatres and an emergency unit. BK Gulf was contacted directly by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, UAE to develop a solution that could be rapidly deployed and easily assembled, especially considering the lack of construction resources in the Island of Socotra. BK Gulf used its off-site manufacturing facilities to fully build the facility in a containerised fashion in the UAE, then ship it to Socotra. This required very complex engineering consideration in all disciplines to deliver a compliant facility with HADD Standards while using completely different building methodology. After the successful completion of this project, the client awarded BK Gulf two more design and build packages in Socotra: CT Scan Room and Modular Intensive Care Unit / Coronary Care Unit.
