GIS Portal: Democratising Data
Entered by: The Red Sea Development Company
The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC) is the developer behind the ambitious regenerative tourism destination The Red Sea. The 28,000 km2 location includes an archipelago of more than 90 islands on Saudi Arabia’s pristine west coast, one of the few thriving coral reefs in the world, and around 50 dormant volcanic cones.
The destination has already passed significant milestones and work is on track to welcome the first guests by the end of 2022, when the first hotels will open. The Red Sea will comprise 50 hotels, offering up to 8,000 hotel rooms and more than 1,000 residential properties across 22 islands and six inland sites. The scale of the project, the environmental sensitivity, and ambitious timelines mean that access to high quality data to provide robust governance and improved decision making capabilities is a critical success factor for delivery.
The Digital Delivery team have embarked on a digital project to democratise geospatial data with our stakeholders and provide a platform to power the Red Sea’s Smart Destination ambition. The GIS Portal collates maps, satellite imagery and BIM data for use and collection by all project stakeholders.
