Update: Tamer Elgohari, Digital Innovation Manager, ASGC Construction was chosen by an independent panel of judges as the Construction Technology Rising Star of the Year in the Construction Technology Awards
What made you interested in a career in this area of construction technology?
It is all started with virtual design and construction (VDC), where 4D modelling has been one of my favourite topics since I was in university. This power of predicting the future and using visual animation to solve the construction puzzle is unbelievable. After working for years in VDC, I figured out that construction is one of the least advanced in terms of technology and innovation. For me, that was a challenge to start working in this field to leverage the power of technology and innovation in the construction industry.
What project (internal or external) has been your favourite to work on so far? Why?
The integration between BIM 4D modeling and gaming engines is my favorite project, because it shows the real power of 4D simulation and it proves that different industries should start learning from each other. There are no boundaries anymore. So, we have used tools from the gaming industry and integrated them within the construction industry.
Since you joined the industry have you noticed any major shifts in attitudes towards construction technology?
Unfortunately, the construction industry is slow in terms of technology and digital transformation. From my point of view there are so many areas of development and good opportunities in construction that could be turned into a real win.
You’ve been shortlisted. Why do you think you should win?
I do believe we are all winners by reaching the shortlisting stage.
Construction Technology Awards
The shortlist for Construction Technology Rising Star of the Year recognises non-senior managers from the construction value chain who are fast gaining importance in both their organisation and field, and are becoming a role model for digital technology.
The rising stars in this list have positively impacted the organisation’s strategy, planning, management processes or investment decisions, and successfully collaborated with internal and external stakeholders to achieve impressive project results.
The winner will be announced on Wednesday 2 June, on the second day of the Construction Technology Festival, taking place in Dubai. Find out more here.
