This talk looks at how to cut energy use in a commercial building, using a recent retrofit example at the Miramar Al Aqah Beach Resort in Fujairah, UAE.
It follows a five-year shared saving contract that set out over a longer period to cut energy bills whilst removing technical and financial risk from the asset owner.
The project began with an audit process, followed by the implementation. That included an energy control system, a hot water system using renewables and more efficient chillers. Savings from the work included a 30% reduction in electricity use, a 33% drop in diesel use and water savings of 21%.
“There are actions where the savings are not that big, [and] others where the savings are a little bigger. But…the end result is the combination of them all. It’s not about saving a lot on each one – it’s saving a little on a lot of different actions, because that aggregates for a total saving that is quite significant,” said Henrique Pereira, CEO, Taka Solutions.
