Daniel Llort, Projects Manager, Ministry of Infrastructure Development, UAE looks at the digitalisation of construction and maintenance for roads and highways for the Ministry, using technologies such as Light Detection and Ranging (Lidar) and drones. Speaking during the Construction Technology Festival, he outlined how the technologies give the ministry an accurate picture of roads and bridges, and any maintenance required.

By using mobile mapping with Lidar, data is collected faster and 3D models and high definition maps can be created. Drones are used for bridge inspection, saving time and resources to produce reliable reports on condition. Internet of Things (IoT) is also used to continuously monitor bridges, as well as for flood sensors to have continual insights on water levels. The information is collated and analysed for use in forecasting, such as in predictive maintenance or condition of roads.

Below is the audience Q&A session with all speakers from the Success stories in machine learning and artificial intelligence track during the Construction Technology Festival. Answering audience questions are:

  • Kayhan Sen, Regional Project Controls Director Middle East, Faithful+Gould – Predictive data analysis and virtual construction in progress monitoring and scheduling
  • Daniel Llort, Projects Manager, Ministry of Infrastructure Development, UAE
  • Tony Abou Jawad, Industry Territory Manager, Autodesk
