At the recent Construction Technology Confex in Saudi Arabia, Zak MacRunnels, CEO of Reconstruct, delivered an engaging short talk that explored how reality capture and 4D digital twins are transforming the way construction teams manage progress, quality, and certainty across projects.
MacRunnels introduced Reconstruct’s core innovation, a Visual Command Center, that acts as a single platform for tracking what’s built against what should be built, in real time. Using photos, videos, drone footage, crane cameras, and other readily available site visuals, Reconstruct creates a measurable, visual digital twin layered directly onto design models, whether 2D drawings or complex BIM files.
By tying these visuals to project schedules, such as Primavera P6, Reconstruct delivers powerful 4D insights that allow stakeholders to see, compare, and act: spotting discrepancies, tracking progress, reducing rework, and avoiding costly errors, all while cutting down on unnecessary site visits and CO₂ emissions from travel.
MacRunnels emphasized the power of visual measurability, showing how overlaying real conditions onto design drawings can immediately highlight deviations. From pre-concrete pour validations and MEP inspections to fire safety verifications and accessibility compliance, the examples showcased how teams are using Reconstruct to detect and resolve issues before they escalate.
One standout story detailed how a clinic renovation used reality capture to ensure wheelchair access compliance, highlighting the critical role of accurate site measurement in maintaining project quality and meeting operational requirements.
From 7-Eleven store upgrades to major international builds, Reconstruct’s ability to integrate with over 70 design platforms and project management systems like Aconex allows for a fully connected issue resolution process, from detection to delegation and closure.
